Huron Parade of Lights & Christmas Lanes
There’s no better way to celebrate the return of the festive season than to come together as a community at the annual Parade of Lights and Christmas Lanes celebrations in Huron, SD.
Parade of Lights
The Huron Chamber & Visitors Bureau celebrates the holiday season with a Parade of Lights, held annually on the Friday after Thanksgiving. The parade begins at 7 pm and runs through the heart of downtown Huron from Market Street and South on Dakota Avenue to Coborns Parking Lot.
Christmas Lanes
The tradition of the Christmas Lanes started in 1962, when each home along Campbell Drive put up a candy cane built of stove pipe, painted white and decorated with red oilcloth. Since that time, other neighborhoods have gotten into the Christmas spirit by developing lanes with holiday themes.
The imagination of local residents creates the ideas for the design the lanes will feature. There are now over 40 lanes that participate. Each year, more and more lanes illuminate their yards and streets to decorate for the season. The Parade of Lights Committee selects a Christmas lane and business to be recognized throughout the holidays in addition to the coveted “Clark Griswold Award'' which goes to the best lit house.
